Moochers ask for or obtain things without paying for them as defined by Google. Though the practice of mooching is not unique to our current era, some have become proficient at claiming their supposed right to other’s goods or wealth by claiming that they invented something first. The ability to claim an intellectual monopoly on an idea has enticed creative minds to invent the world as we know it today but this idea has become perverted. No longer can the imaginative have their visions realized without fearing that someone will sue them for exorbitant amounts of money if they do not rescind their claim to their inventions. Abandoning the system may not have a desirable outcome because there would still be no incentive to create something better than what already exists because all of that effort could be stolen. I fear that if we do not fix our patent system, our society will cease to progress because we will have stifled innovation.
