engendering exclusion

male-female

Society has taken enormous strides in eliminating discrimination of all kinds. We, of course, have much further to go, but more women are entering fields of study that previously barred their admission. Some of these markets now have more women than men. Although women have entered the workplace and many sports, some fields continue to see very few women entrants. Computer and information-related fields have actually seen the number of women decrease in recent years. I do not advocate complete parity in all aspects of society. If women simply have no interest in something, I do not wish to fight against them; however, if members of this field, do anything to discourage women from pursuing a career in computer science we need to make some serious changes. Women have unique perspectives and methods of thinking. Software, graphic and architectural design could use some feminine influence.
