red pill, blue pill

Virtual reality is on the rise. After its initial hype in the nineties it had a quiet presence until recently. The Rift from Occulus and Sony’s Morpheus could truly become the future of gaming and even a variety of other activities. This could transform, yet again, the world as we know it. No matter the realistic nature of a simulation, I do not believe that it has the ability to replace actual reality; however, learning to create realities and complex systems and to interact in them is one of the purposes of our existence. Technology is surely God given but we mustn’t allow it to become obsessive or to replace certain vital aspects of our every days lives. A day may come when virtual reality so closely mirrors our world that we cannot see a difference, but the fact remains that it is virtual. It can augment and enhance but it cannot replace.
